After years of repair work, a city pool plagued with structural issues is set to reopen in the new year.
The city said construction is slated to be completed at the end of January and the pool will open "in early 2016."
The facility closed in November 2012 due to structural problems.
The Manitoba government, city and Kinsmen Club of Winnipeg invested $3..7 million into repairs.
City of Winnipeg engineer Brent Pinuta is the project manager for Sherbrook Pool. He said construction is about 50 per cent complete.
Pinuta said many structural repairs have been completed, and that the pool, pool deck and basement floor have been repaired.
He said work has begun on new air conditioning and heating systems.
Pinuta said there will be improved washroom and change room facilities, as well as better accessibility to bathrooms, the main entrance, and the pool entrance.
Friends of Sherbrook Pool also launched their Collaborative Programming model. It allows for community members to say what programs they'd like to see at the pool.
A full committee with representatives from the city and community organizations will be formed under the new model.
