Cab owners have another month to install safety shields in their taxis.

The taxicab board extended the deadline for cab companies and drivers to install full-length wraparound shields until Nov. 29.

The deadline was supposed to have been Nov. 1, but many taxi drivers said the new shields are unsafe and could trap drivers inside their vehicle in an accident.

The taxicab board originally made the decision to have the shields installed after a string of attacks on cab drivers.

The province is appointing an engineer to inspect the mandated shields and address safety concerns, officials said.
