A Winnipeg man has turned his passion for all Polynesian culture into a film.

Steve Ward keeps plenty of Tiki items and memorabilia in his home. He has everything from unique cups to music.

Ward said he finds it all so interesting he decided to make a documentary about it and the Polynesian connection right here in Winnipeg. The film is called “Mai Tais, Touques and Tikis.”

It takes a look Polynesian culture and the Tiki collecting scene in Winnipeg, especially its hay day at the old Beachcomber restaurant in downtown Winnipeg.

"Weddings, birthdays, first dates, everything. For a long time it was the place to go and if you wanted to have a nice night, that's where you would go, The Beachcomber," said Ward.

The Beachcomber was open for 30 years between the early 1960s and 1990s. Ward said he's happy he was able to document that part of Winnipeg's history.

The doc debuts Sunday night at 8:00 p.m. at The Park Theater on Osborne Street.
