A Manitoba CAA tow truck driver says he's lucky he wasn't seriously hurt after an SUV plowed into his truck while he was pulling a car out of the ditch.
It happened around 8:00 a.m. Wednesday as heavy snow fell on Highway 59.
James Smith says he put out road cones and flares and had the flashing lights on his tow truck activated at the time of the collision.
Smith was outside his vehicle preparing to use the controls that operate the winch on his truck. He managed to step back from the truck just before it was hit.
Smith says it is not uncommon for himself and his colleagues to experience close calls. He says many drivers don't obey the law requiring them to slow down and change lanes when passing tow trucks and service vehicles.
According to Smith, the driver of the vehicle that hit the truck was not seriously injured in the crash.
