A flooring company called out a customer they claim owes them money with an attention-grabbing sign in South St. Vital.
River Park Flooring put the sign up Monday, saying this customer has an overdue balance of $1,153.19.
"We were trying to get the attention of the person,” said co-owner Curtis Rossow.
"We’ve taken many phone calls this week over it. I’ve explained it to some people and some people are open to it and understand it and some people don't think it is the right thing to do."
Rossow said not getting paid for work done is something that is hurting small businesses all around the city.
"The entire city is built on small businesses. We are one of many that have gone through this," he said.
Rossow says the sign was taken down Thursday morning and the customer paid the bill on Thursday afternoon.
Lawyer Robert Tapper said a sign like this is risky.
"If it is the case that one party is saying this person isn't paying me and implying to the public that this person is simply someone who doesn’t like paying their bills, or is a stiff or is a bad person, that could well be defamatory," he said.
CTV News asked for an interview with the man named on the sign. Our request was turned down.
