An environment group wants government action to clean up one of Manitoba’s provincial parks.
In a statement released Thursday, the Wilderness Committee said it went to grass river Provincial Park and found water samples to be extremely toxic.
The park where samples were collected is located about half way between The Pas and Flin Flon.
The samples were taken from a bog near the old Spruce Point Mine site, operated by Hudbay Minerals, said the Wilderness Committee. The site closed in 1993.
In video released by the committee, a metal garage left behind is shown. They said the ponds are polluted. It said levels of cobalt and copper found are high enough to be kill fish.
CTV's request to the government Saturday has not been returned.
The Wilderness Committee released the results ahead of International Bog Day which takes place Sunday.
