The Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba, along with Health Sciences Centre, have launched a new food distribution system to the Children’s Hospital.
Four new food carts, each equipped with both a fridge and oven, are now rolled throughout the hospital, serving three meals each day.
The carts were introduced after a hospital audit found that 50 per cent of food trays were being returned to the kitchen uneaten.
Each cart carries a price tag of $40,000, a cost partially covered by the children’s book market.
The foundation works to support the special health-care needs of children through funding of equipment and programs at Children’s Hospital, HSC and pediatric medical research at the Manitoba Institute of Child Health. Since its inception, the foundation has raised close to $100 million.
