Drivers will have to pick alternate routes or face some heavy delays in south Winnipeg this weekend.

Construction crews are closing northbound Waverley Street from Mathers Avenue to Grant Avenue to all vehicle traffic for routine maintenance on a railway crossing in the area.

The closure starts at 6 p.m. on Friday and will last throughout the weekend, until early Monday morning.

On Sunday it gets even worse for drivers, as the Manitoba marathon will see parts of Waverley Street and Pembina Highway closed as well.

Drivers are being encouraged to use Kenaston Boulevard to avoid significant delays.
