Asha, who was thought to have been paralyzed after the whole ordeal, has made a full recovery.

Chantalle Gauthier has been Asha’s foster mom during her recovery, and could not part with her, so she decided to adopt the puppy herself.

“Everyone is so excited for them both,” said Lindsay Gillanders, spokesperson with Manitoba Underdogs Rescue. “It's our hope that we can help to prevent unwanted strays from the same pain Asha went through.”

Gillanders explained that the leftover donations made in Asha’s name will be used to run a spay and neuter clinic in Long Plain First Nation Oct. 29-30.
