Report cards are being sent home with children all across the province this week and some students and parents will notice they are in a brand new format.

The province is introducing a plain language report card in a bid to better show parents how their children are doing in school.

Education Minister Nancy Allen met with educators and parents at Ryerson School to unveil the new report card.

The new reports contain information about academic achievement, student learning behaviours, and for high school students a chart showing the student’s progress towards graduation.

“The information is more concise,” said Allen, “Teachers are giving information about a child’s strength, an area they can maybe do some more work in, and then actually setting a goal in each subject.”

The new report card will be introduced in all Manitoba schools by September.

The province is also introducing new multi-lingual parent brochures to help parents better understand the new report cards.

Those brochures will be available in 16 languages.
