Sabra hummus brands recalled over possible Listeria contamination

Concerns over listeria in a popular brand of hummus prompted a recall warning Canada’s food inspectors.

Sabra Canada Inc. is recalling several varieties of Sabra hummus, which may contain Listeria monocytogenes. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency warns consumers not to eat any of the products and to throw them away or return them to the store.

The recall in Canada followed a recall in another country. The recalled varieties of hummus were sold across Canada and the recall includes all best-before dates up to and including Jan. 23, 2017.

Listeria monocytogenes is a bacterium that can cause flu-like symptoms including vomiting, nausea, fever, and aches. Elderly people and pregnant women are particularly at risk.
