RCMP and STARS Air Ambulance were on the scene of a fatal head-on crash south of Brandon Friday afternoon.
Police said the crash happened around 3:20 p.m. on Highway 2, north of Highway 21 near Souris, Manitoba.
A westbound car collided head-on with an eastbound SUV.
The 52-year-old Saskatchewan man driving the car was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man driving the eastbound SUV, also from Saskatchewan, was transported to a Winnipeg hospital with serious injuries. His female front seat passenger was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. The four children in the back seats were not injured.
STARS Air Ambulance was dispatched to the area just before 4:00 pm.
Highway 2 in the vicinity of Highway 21 (west junction), near the town of Deleau remained closed until after 9:00 p.m.
RCMP say road conditions were normal. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash. All occupants of the two vehicles appear to have been wearing seatbelts.
RCMP are investigating with the help of a forensic collision reconstructionist.
The name of the deceased will not be released.
