Residents in southeastern Manitoba are making headway in clearing debris and fallen trees from their property, after a massive storm swept through the province Thursday night.
The storm initially knocked out power to almost 6,000 people, damaging substations and downing numerous power lines and towers.
By Sunday evening, about 400 people remained without power. The Piney, Vita and Woodridge areas were still waiting for their heat and lights to come back on Sunday.
Hydro officials said crews were working feverishly in the area to repair damaged poles and put in new poles.
All of the Whiteshell’s substations were back up on Saturday, but distributing power from the substations was the major problem Hydro crews were faced with.
Officials said residents in Lac du Bonnet and Falcon Lake may still have some small outages.
Good weather has helped crews get work done quickly, and Hydro said they’ve had crews in from Brandon, Winnipeg, Selkirk and the Interlake to help repair all the damage
Hydro said they hoped to have power restored to all residents by Sunday night, but some residents – especially in remote areas – might not see power until Monday.
