A 70 kg bear cub in North Kildonan shut down streets and brought out Winnipeg Police and Manitoba Conservation officers Saturday morning.

The year-old cub was spotted in the area between Donwood Drive and Douglas Avenue around 8:00 a.m. Police shut down streets in the area, creating a perimeter. The bear ran between two sections of bush, hiding, while police and conservation officers waited to make their move.

Conservation officers were able to tree the bear at around 11:00 a.m. They shot it with a tranquilizer. After the bear dropped, it took five officers to carry it to a truck. The bear was taken to Beaudry Park.

Manitoba Conservation says this is the first time this year a bear has made it's way into the city. Last year it happened three times -- that's about average.

"It just wandered into the city," Richard Romaniuk of Manitoba Conservation told CTV News. "Instead of turning left -- he went right and came into Winnipeg."

No one was injured throughout the ordeal.
