Charleswood city councillor Paula Havixbeck has become the first sitting councillor to throw her hat in the ring this election for mayor of Winnipeg.
Havixbeck signed the papers to run for mayor Wednesday afternoon at city hall.
"I think it's important we start restoring trust and confidence and I think I'm the best person to do that," she said.
She said she wants to start restoring trust by changing the power structure at city hall and giving all councillors equal say by eliminating the mayor's cabinet.
Havixbeck previously sat on the mayor's executive policy committee but fell out of favour with Mayor Sam Katz.
Former councillor Gord Steeves, privacy lawyer Brian Bowman and three others are also officially in the race for mayor.
Councillor Scott Fielding and former candidate Judy Wasylycia-Leis are considering a run too.
Mayor Katz says he will decide his future in the summer.
