TORONTO - Ontario Liberal MPP Glen Murray is stepping down from his role as the province's minister of training, colleges and universities.
The Toronto-Centre MPP broke the news on Twitter shortly after 11 a.m. Saturday.
In another post on the social media site, Murray said he will release more details about his decision to resign in a news conference Sunday.
Murray, who served as the mayor of Winnipeg from 1998 to 2004, was elected to the Ontario legislature in a 2010 byelection.
He was re-elected in 2011 and given the cabinet post in the Liberals' minority government.
Murray's resignation opens the doors for him to run for leadership of the Ontario Liberal party.
