RCMP released a warning Tuesday about a scam spotted by a Headingley resident.
On Aug. 16, Headingley RCMP said they were alerted by a local resident about a letter.
“An official-looking letter from a purported accountant in Ontario states that a business magnate has died leaving an unclaimed life insurance policy. The letter wants the recipient to stand as the beneficiary of the estate because of the same surname,” said RCMP regarding the scam.
Police warned the public never to offer personal or financial information to unknown contacts.
More details on scams and frauds are available on the RCMP’s website or on the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre's site.
