The large living maple leaf formed at Portage & Main Saturday morning resonated well-beyond Canada.
“It has gone everywhere,” said organizer Tineke de Jong. “So over 100,000 people have now viewed it on Facebook, the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) picked up the story.”
de Jong said she also spoke with Eurovision, a media network in Europe, and a person from Norway Sunday morning.

“We just think that a lot of people wanted to celebrate Canada’s 150, and we’re just celebrating all of our incredible people Canada-wide who were part of this event, Canada’s 150 birthday as a whole, and we’re just really excited about the opportunity that Canada is on the international front.”
de Jong said the 3,600 people that showed up to form the flag was the second largest gathering they’ve had for the event.
“We don’t know if we can even top this (for next year),” said de Jong. “We have a whole year to think about what we can do.”
