A 22-year-old Winnipeg man is presumed drowned after falling into the water near the Powerview Hydro Dam in Powerview.

RCMP Const. Chantal Kelly told CTV News, officers got a 911 call from the man's friends at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday.

She says the group of friends had come from Winnipeg together and were fishing near the dam. 


The 22-year-old is believed to have slipped off a wet rock into the fast moving water and was then pulled under by the current.

She says his friends tried to grab him, but he never came back to the surface.

Lac du Bonet's Search and Rescue Team had a boat circling the in the water hoping to spot the man's body, but to no avail.

Powerview RCMP called off the search after several hours.

RCMP are not releasing the man's name until they contact his family.
