Remembrance Day services

RBC Convention Centre Remembrance Day service:

The public is invited to the Winnipeg convention centre Remembrance Day service which is hosted annually by the Joint Veterans Association of Manitoba and the Canadian Forces.

Date: Wednesday, November 11, 2015
Location: RBC Convention Centre Winnipeg
Time: Attendees are asked to be seated by 10:15 a.m.

The convention centre exterior doors will be open from 8:00 a.m. but access to the third floor auditorium, the site of the Remembrance Day service will not be available until 9:30 a.m. Everyone is asked to be seated by 10:15 a.m.

The Air Command Band will play during the interval and at 10:40 a.m. Veteran's Flag Parties will march onto the stage and the Service will begin with the arrival of the Lieutenant Governor at 10:45 a.m.

Last Post will sound as the clock strikes 11:00 a.m.

Royal Winnipeg Rifles Remembrance Day Ceremony

All are welcome to attend a Remembrance Day ceremony at the memorial to the 44th Battalion of the Royal Winnipeg Rifles in Vimy Ridge Memorial Park.

Riverwood Square Intergenerational Remembrance Day Service

Date: November 11, 2015
Location: Riverwood Square Retirement Community

Time: 10:45 a.m.

All are welcome to attend the Riverwood Square Retirement Community's annual Remembrance Day Service. A large number of veterans reside in the building, and are honoured at the service each year. An intergenerational aspect is new this year, with the 199 St. Vital, Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron marching on the flags, and acting as escorts to veterans and wreath layers.

Free taxi rides for veterans in Winnipeg:

Members of the Winnipeg Taxi Alliance will offer free rides to Remembrance Day services for veterans.

On Wednesday, any veteran will receive free round-trip taxi transportation from Unicity and Duffy’s Taxi.

This trip will be from their homes to the Remembrance Day service venue of their choosing. The venue must be located within the City of Winnipeg and additional stops will not be permitted under this offer.

Canadian Blood Services is holding a Remembrance Day Blood Donor Clinic on November 11 at their location on William Avenue between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. and at the RBC Convention Centre from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. They are urging the public to come out and donate on behalf of all the brave men and women who fought for our country. Archives of Manitoba

"(An) initiative includes a weekly blog on the Archives of Manitoba website highlighting wartime records and a display of soldiers’ letters in the building foyer. The display is open to the public and tomorrow (Nov. 10) at 7 p.m. at 200 Vaughan Ave. in the Archives of Manitoba Research Room, selected letters will be read aloud," said the province.

Recycling/garbage collection

There is no recycling, garbage, or yard waste collection on Remembrance Day, Wednesday, November 11, 2015 for all single family homes or apartments.

The following schedule changes are in effect for the week of November 9, 2015 for those customers that normally have collection on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday.

On Remembrance Day, Wednesday, November 11, Winnipeg Transit will be operating on a Sunday schedule.

All Winnipeg public library branches will be closed Wednesday, November 11.

Leisure Centres

All leisure centers will be closed on Wednesday, November 11.

Swimming Pools

All City of Winnipeg indoor swimming pools will be closed on Wednesday, November 11 with the exception of the Pan Am Pool and the Cindy Klassen Recreation Complex.

The Pan Am Pool will be open from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The Cindy Klassen Recreation Complex will be open from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Animal Services Agency

The Animal Services Agency will be closed Wednesday, November 11.

Cemeteries

Cemetery grounds at Brookside, St. Vital, and Transcona Cemeteries will be open for visitation from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Remembrance Day. Cemetery offices will be closed.

Winnipeg Parking Authority

The Winnipeg Parking Authority will be closed on Wednesday, November 11.
