Community members in Souris are sandbagging to protect homes against flooding.

The town, located in southwest Manitoba, is gearing up and preparing for the rise of the Souris River.

About 30 volunteers were hard at work, with about another 50 students helping in the sandbagging efforts.

Along with protecting against flooding, efforts are also underway to help ensure sewage at a treatment plant doesn't flow into the river if river water levels rise near the plant, said Souris Emergency Measures Coordinator Sven Kreusch.
