Thursday evening, police confirmed that members of a task force focused on missing and murdered women had been carrying out a search warrant at a home in Point Douglas.

Neighbours said they saw police emerge from a home with a number of boxes as officers remained on scene at a residence on Lorne Avenue in Winnipeg’s Point Douglas neighourhood.

Thursday marked the third straight day that police were there.

Sources tell CTV News that Project Devote officers are searching for clues in an unsolved case involving a missing or murdered Manitoba woman, clues which police uncovered during an investigation in the death of a B.C. woman.

A neighbour said she heard police working Wednesday.

“I heard some digging…yesterday evening,” said the woman. “Later on yesterday evening, they were taking boxes out. There's a lot of guys in white clothing.”

“It is standard practice where we have a major case such as this where there is a homicide and we have a suspect in custody that investigators will look at unsolved cases and will reach out to other jurisdictions,” said Cpl. Darren Lagan from Vancouver Island RCMP on Tuesday.

Jennifer McPherson disappeared from her home on Hanson Island in B.C. a week ago. The 41-year-old’s body was later found. Her 37-year-old husband Traigo Andretti faces a charge for second-degree murder.

The victim’s family told CTV News the couple lived in Winnipeg five years ago, in the Point Douglas home that officers have been searching through.

According to court documents, Andretti is known to police in both B.C. and Winnipeg.

CTV News has also learned he also goes by the name of Dylan Grubb.

Thursday evening, police issued a press release about the Lorne Avenue investigation.

"This is in relation to a criminal offence that occurred in the Province of Manitoba," said police.

Police did not comment on whether the Lorne Avenue investigation is in any way connected to Andretti.

"On May 8, 2013, as part of an ongoing Project Devote investigation, members of the Project Devote team, with the assistance of the Winnipeg Police Service Forensic Identification Unit, executed a search warrant at a residence in the 100 block of Lorne Avenue in Winnipeg," said police.

Police said they would not comment further as the investigation is ongoing.
