The family of a senior citizen injured in a home invasion said the incident has left people in a western Manitoba town on edge.

They said 78-year-old Fred Saley remains in hospital after the attack at his rural home north of Rossburn.

RCMP said shortly after midnight October 27, officers responded to the home. Initial investigation revealed the man was tied up and assaulted by three unknown masked men carrying weapons.

Police believe the incident was targeted.

"Who would ever do something like that to an elderly man living alone minding his own business," a family member told CTV News.

The relative said Saley lives alone at his home and mainly keeps to himself.

The family member, who does not want to be identified, was shocked to find out what happened to Saley.

RCMP are seeking the public's help to identify the suspects, two of which were captured in surveillance photographs.

They describe the suspects as follows:

  • First suspect: tall, thin, short/medium length hair; appears to have a moustache, wearing a dark sweater, grey pants.
  • Second suspect: appears to be white, stalky build and balding with short hair; possibly a pony tail and a thick moustache.
  • The third suspect was not captured in the photographs, but is described as a younger man possibly in his 20s.
