A Winnipeg institution will be closing in a matter of months.

The Kelekis family has announced their North End restaurant will be closing in early 2013.

The announcement came after 81 years at the same location on Main Street.

"My dad started in this location in 1931. He had an old Model T truck and he brought it in," said Mary Kelekis.

Chris Kelekis would sell food from the back of his truck until the 1940s, when he built the full restaurant on the spot where he used to park his truck.

Mary will be celebrating her 88th birthday next month and has decided to take a break.

"I've been working every day, seven days a week, opening up every morning for the past 30 years. It's going to be nice to sleep in," said Mary, laughing.

The Kelekis restaurant will close on Jan. 30, 2013 and they're inviting people to stop by to said goodbye and have a meal before then.
