A woman is dead following a collision in the North End late Tuesday afternoon.

It happened at the intersection of Boyd Avenue and Sinclair Street.

Two cars could be seen on their sides.

Winnipeg police said an officer attempted to stop a van travelling west on Boyd Avenue when the van sped up and crashed into a pickup truck travelling north on Sinclair Street.

The van was carrying five people including a 36-year-old woman, two men, a teenage male, and a teenage female.

The woman in the van was killed. The other four were transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The lone male occupant of the truck was also transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The intersection of Sinclair Street and Boyd Avenue reopened just before 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The province’s Independent Investigations Unit has taken over the investigation.

The forensic identification unit was on scene as well.

No names have been released.

Earlier officers asked motorists to avoid the area.
