The province has announced a system called Alert Ready, which has the capability to override television and radio broadcasts in the event of life-threatening emergencies, is operational.

The system will broadcast a loud noise and warning about the nature of the threat and what action people should take to remain safe.

It will be used to warn people about things like tornados, flash floods, wild fires and biohazards.

For now, Alert Ready only works with radio and television broadcasts but the province plans to roll out another phase that will bring it to online platforms.

A test of the system will take place on Wednesday at 1:58 p.m.
