An RCMP officer will not face any criminal charges, after his gun was stolen and used to shoot a 16-year-old girl.
Calli Vanderaa was shot in a car outside a Windsor Park convenience store in October 2015.
The gun used in the shooting, was stolen from an off-duty RCMP officer’s cruiser.
Winnipeg police investigated the circumstances surrounding the theft of the gun, and said the situation does not warrant charges against the RCMP officer.
Police said the bullet pierced Vanderaa's lung and spleen in the shooting, but she survived.
Court documents said it was taken after one or more men entered the officer’s home without permission and took the keys to his vehicle.
In February 2016, Vanderaa launched a lawsuit against the officer who owned the gun and the RCMP.
Two men were later arrested and charged in connection to the shooting. Matthew Wilfred McKay, 22, faces multiple charges, including attempted murder and weapons offences. Matthew Andrew Miles, 25, faces charges for weapons offences and theft.
