A 22-year-old suspect has been charged for the death of his brother following a stabbing Monday, said police.

Neighbours said the victim lived in the River Heights home with his girlfriend, her 11-year-old daughter and the couple’s five-month-old baby.

“We hate when these circumstances occur between people, let alone between brothers or family members,” said Const. Jason Michalyshen from Winnipeg police.

Shortly after 2 a.m. on Oct. 8, officers were called to the home in the 100 block of Lindsay Street for a report of a stabbing.

Two brothers, age 22 and 25, had been arguing.

CTV News is told the fight broke out after the family had finished Thanksgiving dinner.

The fight escalated and other family members tried to intervene.

The suspect then grabbed a knife and stabbed the victim, said police.

Police said Christopher Barry Larche, 25, was rushed to hospital in critical condition but died from injuries.

Eric and Lara Reimer live in the neighbourhood and said Christopher had gone out of his way to help as the couple adjusted to their new roles as parents.

“He mowed our lawn for us, which was really sweet, and he brought over a box of potatoes that they got from the farmers market and some bread - you know just to kind of help tide us over since grocery shopping was difficult as well,” said Lara.

“He was always looking to help,” said Eric.

Justin Frederick Larche, 22, of Winnipeg faces a charge of manslaughter, said police.
