Councillor wants city to fine Canada Post if windrows not cleared around community mailboxes

A Winnipeg councillor wants the city to hold Canada Post responsible for accessibility for community mailboxes.

Coun. Ross Eadie says the Crown corporation should be fined when it doesn't clear windrows.

A city report said Canada Post is responsible for making sure snow is cleared. But it doesn't appear the city will go after the mail giant.

Public Works Chair Janice Lukes said if people can't get to their mail boxes, they should call Canada Post or, failing that, their Member of Parliament, not the City of Winnipeg.

Lukes said this issue is not the city's responsibility.
