Two vehicles were pulled over on the side of Sturgeon Road on Friday when a third vehicle crashed into them, police said on Saturday.

The collision was reported near Saskatchewan Avenue at about 2 a.m.

One vehicle got stuck in the snow and the driver of a second vehicle pulled over to assist, police say. Both of those drivers were outside of their cars when the third vehicle crashed into the stopped vehicles.

Only the driver of the third vehicle was injured. That person was taken to hospital and was in critical condition as of Saturday morning, police said.

Police blamed icy roads for the crash after a night of freezing rain. Officers are continuing to investigate.
