People began lining up early this morning to get their hands on Apple's newest release – the new iPad.

Around 4 a.m. lines began to form outside Polo Park shopping centre March 16. The iPad has a retail price of about $499, that's less than one share of Apple stock. The stock rose above $600 for the first time Thursday.

"It's the excitement of being one of the first ones to have it. It's knowing I'm going to get it and making sure that I'm in line to get that first one," said Andru Valpy who took home an iPad from the Apple store at Polo Park Friday.

Apple stores across Canada also saw early-morning lineups; people in Vancouver camped out overnight in front of an Apple store.

People in Japan were among the first to get their hands on the new tablet.
