A new video has surfaced of a fight between a referee and a coach during a hockey game involving 12-year-old youths in Winnipeg.
Near the end of the game involving Sagkeeng and Brokenhead, 12-year-old Kainen Bell suffered a broken arm at Southdale Community Centre on Sunday.
As the referee was separating players, two fell to the ice.
“It just went black for like…four or five seconds,” said Kainen.
His parents, who are also coaches, admit tensions were high at the game, but question why the referee was so rough.
“(Video) shows him grabbing him by the back of the armpits and twirling, pivoting, slamming him on the ice," said his dad Robert Bell.
"People are saying that he fell, but it doesn’t look like a fall,”said his mom Brenda Bell.
Coaches rushed onto the ice seconds after the referee and player hit the ice. During the scuffle, the ref was slashed on the back from a player.
Winnipeg police have their own videos and are investigating whether or not someone will be facing charges in the incident.
"If charges are warranted, we will move forward with them, but right now I am not confirming we are moving forward with those charges,” said Const. Jason Michalyshen from Winnipeg police.
Kainan’s parents said they will be consulting with a lawyer on who should be held accountable for his broken arm.
They said the ref could have done a better job to control the situation.
"He could've prevented it…you know, that female ref contained three kids better than a six-foot-six guy did," said Robert Bell.
But the coach from the opposing team said none of this should have happened at a Peewee League game.
"I thought that both refs that (refereed) the second game were definitely in control. They did a great job,” said Allen Hocaluk.
