Winnipeg police are trying to find the thief who stole a sculpture created by the father of slain teenager Candace Derksen.

Cliff Derksen had previously hoped the disappearance of the sculpture was just a prank, but when it wasn't returned, the family went to police.

The piece was taken from an art exhibition in the 300 block of Ross Avenue at Frame Arts Warehouse earlier in April.

The statue, called Dancing David, is ceramic and is gold in colour.
