Seven staff members in the Winnipeg Free Press newsroom were laid off Tuesday.
They include five reporters, a technician and an editor.
Aldo Santin, president of the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union Local 191, said it's the largest single-day cut to the newsroom in the paper's history.
He said it has devastated the newsroom, and it has affected the very people who create content for their readers.
The paper's publisher did not respond to a call seeking comment Tuesday afternoon.
