Officers temporarily evacuated homes and businesses around Bank Avenue and St. Anne’s Road in Winnipeg on Wednesday while the bomb unit investigated a report of a suspicious package.

Police closed northbound and southbound St. Anne’s while the investigated Wednesday afternoon.

Officers asked people to avoid the area around 3 p.m.

Around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, police removed scene tape and said the suspicious item had been deemed safe. The road was re-opened to traffic.

Earlier in the day, police investigated at a Canada Post centre on Nairn for reports of other suspicious packages. That scene was cleared late Wednesday morning.
