Winnipeg police investigated a report of a man seen with a weapon in the 600 block of St. John's Avenue near Faraday Elementary School Wednesday morning.

The public was asked to temporarily stay away from the area. Teachers and staff were sent to Isaac Newton School and parents were asked to call before sending their kids to school.

Shortly after 10 a.m., the Winnipeg School Division sent out a tweet.

"Faraday School given the all clear from Winnipeg Police. School will reopen at 1:00 p.m. today," said the Winnipeg School Division in its tweet Wednesday.

The tactical support team searched a home and took two people into custody for questioning.

"My understanding is this is an investigation that started in a different portion of the city and information was received that this male did end up at this residence," said Const. Eric Hofley from Winnipeg police.

Police did not say what sparked the initial investigation. No charges had been laid as of Wednesday morning.
