It appears there are still some people not too far from Winnipeg who can’t find the city on a map.

Staff at CBS This Morning mistakenly placed Winnipeg in Ontario during their show Saturday.

The show featured Good Samaritan bus driver Kris Doubledee and Mayor Sam Katz.

Doubledee made headlines across Canada and the United States this past week after stopping the Winnipeg Transit bus he was driving to give his shoes to a homeless man.

The story of the compassionate act was made public by a woman riding the bus who posted the story on a community website.

During Doubldee and Katz’s appearance on Saturday’s show, a banner misidentifying Katz as the mayor of Winnipeg, Ontario popped up about midway through the segment.

Winnipeggers took to Twitter to correct the station, some taking playful jibes at the station. Ron Cantiveros tweeted, “I wonder what Winnipeg, Ontario looks like on Apple Maps. I’m thinking a field full of unicorns.”

Others were not so gentle. Lauren B. Davis tweeted, “@CBSThisMorning Great story abt (sic) the kind bus driver, but Winnipeg’s in Manitoba, not Ontario. As a news show, u should probably know that.”

Katz, on the other hand, thought it wasn’t that big a deal.

“I believe that people know where Winnipeg, Canada is. Somebody unfortunately made an honest mistake,” he said.

The flub comes just days after Toronto Mayor Tom Ford mistakenly placed Winnipeg in Ontario -- across the river from Detroit, Mich.

Ford was on a trade mission in Chicago when he made the error.

An American woman told him she had recently visited a Canadian city across the river from Detroit, Mich. Ford then misidentified the city she was in , likely Windsor, as Winnipeg. Bill Morrissey of Yes! Winnipeg, a local business development team, said he doesn’t think the two errors reflect poorly on the city.

“There are a lot of very positive mentions out there,” said Morrissey. “I don’t know or think that we necessarily have to correct where there might be a slight sort of misstep.”

What’s important, said Katz, is that an everyday hero got the appreciation he deserved. “I think it was a time where Doubledee did shine because he took an act of generosity to a whole new level,” he said.
