Winnipeggers converged to cheer Team Canada as they battled the U.S.A. in men’s hockey Friday, ultimately taking home a 1-0 win.
For many workplaces across the city, production came to a standstill as employees and customers caught the game on television.
The Fort Garry Hotel set up a makeshift TV in their lounge for visitors.
Cake-ology in the Exchange District streamed the match while employees worked to fill orders.
And many employers offered up an extended lunch hour.
A crew from G.E. Electric watched at the Metropolitan in downtown Winnipeg, because in the words of Chad Betker, "It's the Olympics. It's once every four years. It's team Canada against the States. This is what hockey's about right here, biggest rivalry in hockey, biggest rivalry in sport."
Celebrations will continue throughout the weekend and into Sunday morning.
