Winnipeg police officers, and some of their friends and family members, shaved their heads to raise money for the Manitoba division of the Canadian Cancer Society on Saturday afternoon.

At noon at the St. Vital Shopping Centre a group of volunteers that included police officers, Winnipeg Police Service employees and some children, had their heads shaved.

The Winnipeg Cops for Cancer Head Shave event has raised over $400,000 for the Cancer Society over the past decade, officials said.

All of the money raised stays in Manitoba.

"The brave men and women of the Winnipeg Police Service provide a vital service to our city, keeping Winnipeg a safe place to live," said Joy Letkemann, spokesperson for the Cancer Society of Manitoba.

"We are thrilled to have their continued support in something else vital for all Manitobans: the fight against cancer," Letkemann added.

Constable Korbin Sampson grew out his hair for 12 months, but was happy to get rid of it for the charity.

"I
