Today is the day for Fort Whyte residents to cast their vote in the by-election to determine who will take the seat left open by former Premier Brian Pallister.

Voters in the suburbs of southwest Winnipeg are to go to the polls Tuesday in a traditional stronghold for the governing Progressive Conservatives. One political analyst says the opposition parties might have a chance in the upscale Fort Whyte constituency because the government is low in opinion polls and Premier Heather Stefanson has faced criticism since taking office last fall.

The Manitoba Liberals have selected Willard Reaves as their candidate for the by-election in the Fort Whyte riding.

The provincial Conservative Party has selected Obby Kahn for the Fort Whyte by-election.

The byelection to decide who will represent the riding previously held by former Premier Brian Pallister will need to be held by March, and though it hasn't been called yet, Elections Manitoba is encouraging voters to get ready.
