A suspect was arrested Thursday and charged with several sexual offences after hospital staff reported to police last Febuary that a woman had been assaulted, police said on Friday.

Police investigated and found that a 26-year-old victim was picked up in Winnipeg and driven to a home outside of the city, where she was assaulted, police said.

After the assault, the victim was able to make her way back to Winnipeg, police said.

Initially, the victim could not say exactly where she was assaulted but police investigated and ultimately arrested a resident of the RM of Springfield.

Chauncey Elijah Mustard, 28, was charged with sexual assault, choking to overcome resistance, anal intercourse, forcible confinement, assault and procuring illicit sex.

Mustard was remanded into custody.

Police continue to investigate.
