Emergency crews were called to the Fort Rouge Leisure Centre Tuesday afternoon in Winnipeg.
Officials on scene said a cooling unit was leaking a chemical into the building.
The substance turned out to be non-toxic, said officials.
The building, including a daycare facility, was evacuated as a precaution.
People who were forced out of the building waited on buses and emergency vehicles.
There was one person who came into direct contact with the chemical. He was cleared by medical staff and will be fine, said emergency crews.
The city cancelled programming at the facility Tuesday.
On Wednesday, it issued a statement saying the centre would re-open at 6 a.m. on July 26, following repairs made to the cooling system.
