Police have arrested a 39-year-old woman in connection with fraud and theft from a school lunch program within the River East Transcona School Division.

The suspect allegedly took more than $24,000 between December 2013 and October 2014 from an elementary school lunch program in the Transcona Meadows area, said police.

Const. Jason Michalyshen said the program was funded by parents and she was a staff member with the lunch program.

Police said their investigaiton found the suspect, identified as the treasurer of the lunch program, had been withdrawing money for her own use.

The woman is facing charges for fraud and theft over $5,000.

She was released on a promise to appear. Police did not release her name.
