A Rossburn man is recovering in hospital after a violent home invasion this week in western Manitoba.

Fred Saley, 78, told CTV News he's back on his feet and feeling better after the brazen attack.

Three masked men with weapons wearing what Saley described as snowmobile balaclavas forced their way into his rural home north of Rossburn Tuesday, shortly after midnight.

Saley said the intruders tied his hands with tape, forced him to the ground, covered him with clothing and then pushed a television on top of him.

He said the masked men were throwing boxes and metal washers at him while he was on the ground.

He said the intruders were demanding money and guns.

Saley said the intruders ransacked the house upstairs and downstairs and believes they may have taken pocket knives. He's not sure if they got anything else.

Saley said the intruders left behind a trail of destruction.

"It's a mess," said Saley. "They wrecked the house. They put everything on the ground."

His cousin has been to the house to survey the damage.

Saley said his cousin told him not to worry.

"'You just get better,'" Saley said his cousin told him. "'We'll get down and start sorting it out.'"

Saley didn't try fighting back. He knew he was outnumbered and there wasn't much he could do.

"(I’ve) seen some of the movies," said Saley. "The fellows just said, 'Sit there and wait.'"

RCMP investigators believe the attack was targeted.

Luckily, Saley had security cameras in his yard which captured photos of the suspects.

Investigators are now using those photos and looking for the public's help to identify the intruders.

Two of the suspects were captured on camera.

The first suspect is described as tall and thin with short or medium length hair. The man appears to have a moustache and was wearing a dark sweater and grey pants.

The second suspect is described as a white man with a stalky build and balding with short hair, possibly in a ponytail. The man has a thick moustache.

The third intruder was not shown in the photographs, but he was described as a younger man, possibly in his twenties.

Russell and Rossburn RCMP continue to investigate.

RCMP are asking anyone with information to contact the Russell detachment at 204-773-3051 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
