The city has started its seasonal insect control program after a prolonged spring drastically reduced mosquito numbers in the city.

A helicopter was seen spraying near Route 90 between Inkster Boulevard and the Perimeter Highway Friday morning. Mosquito activity is low but crews are larviciding standing water in and around the city.

City entomologist Taz Stuart held a briefing last week about the start of the city's insect control season. "In my mind, this kind of spring is the best kind of spring," he said.

This year's program will consist of 60 per cent biological and 40 per cent chemical methods.
